How Often Should You Refresh Your Lingerie Drawer?

by Beth Sables 13 Apr 2026 0 comment

We all have that one bra we refuse to part with—the one that’s been there through everything. But when it comes to lingerie, holding on for too long can mean sacrificing comfort, support, and even confidence.

So, how often should you be refreshing your lingerie drawer? Let’s break it down.

The General Rule

As a guide, bras should typically be replaced every 6–12 months—but this depends on how often you wear them and how well they’re cared for.

If you’re rotating between a few favourites, they’ll last longer. If you’re wearing the same bra on repeat (we’ve all done it), it’ll likely need replacing sooner.

Everyday Bras: 6–12 Months

Your go-to bras work the hardest, so they tend to wear out the quickest.

Keep an eye out for:

  • Stretching in the band
  • Loss of support
  • Fading or thinning fabric

If it’s no longer doing its job, it’s time to let it go.

Bralettes: 6–12 Months (Sometimes Longer)

Bralettes like Gia are often more flexible and forgiving, thanks to their wire-free design. That said, they still rely on elastic and fabric strength to support you.

If they’ve lost their shape or feel less supportive, it’s time for an upgrade.

Knickers & Everyday Pieces: 3–6 Months

These are your most worn items, so refreshing them more regularly is key—not just for comfort, but for hygiene too.

If they’ve lost elasticity, feel worn, or no longer fit quite right, it’s time to swap them out.

Occasion & Special Pieces: As Needed

Lace sets or special occasion lingerie don’t get worn as often, so they can last much longer—if they’re cared for properly.

Think of these as long-term staples rather than everyday essentials.

Signs It’s Time for a Refresh

No matter the timeline, your lingerie will usually tell you when it’s time:

  • The band is riding up
  • Straps are slipping or digging in
  • Fabric has stretched out
  • You’re feeling uncomfortable
  • The fit just isn’t right anymore

Your body changes—and your lingerie should keep up.

Build a Drawer That Works for You

Instead of relying on just one or two pieces, try building a small rotation:

  • 2–3 everyday bras
  • 1–2 bralettes for comfort days
  • A mix of everyday knickers
  • A couple of “feel good” sets

This helps extend the life of each piece—and ensures you always have something that fits just right.

It’s Not Just About Lingerie—It’s About You

Refreshing your lingerie drawer isn’t about throwing everything out at once. It’s about checking in with what still works for your body—and what doesn’t.

Because when your lingerie fits well, feels good, and supports you properly, it changes how you carry yourself every day.

And that’s always worth it.
